Camping and food


Two things that go hand in hand as good camping and food. It seems like our appetite on their all-time high for the sake of the exercise and fresh air. If children or young adults go together, pack enough!

After years of camping in the great Northwest, we have several recipes and foods that are a must for found or trips and I thought I would then share with you-who knows, one of them can become one of your favorites like in our family and friends.

We always take a large cooler and fill in the according to the size of the crowd. When friends arrive, they have also done the same thing-the more variety in food, the merrier. We also had a riverfront property that we owned and were able to keep a propane stove with a flat top and BBQ there so we don't have to pack them back and forth.

Usually we just hot dogs and sausages from mild to spicy that we roaster over the campfire. This was a lot easier than travel after work and having to make a great meal.

We serve breakfast every morning-seems that young'uns are always super hungry after their night sleep. We serve mostly eggs, sausage, bacon (we make enough of hamburgers later in the day), and potatoes. One of our favorites was created by a friends who combined tater tots, cheese, crumbled bacon and green onions in a casserole dish and baked. We don't know why it tasted so good that different than it was not a breakfast we had to make, or the tastes just perfectly overflowing. The best cheese is a Mexican mix of cheese available in the shop. For and extra kick, just use peppered bacon and pepper jack cheese.

Lunches varied widely. Everyone's favorite was what became known as the "River citizen". We usually warmed up the bacon on the flat top. Using the bacon fat, we saut ed mushrooms and onions (kind of like what you get on the stock exchange county would). We then the balls on the flat top baked and after turning them over, slice (s) cheese to put and let it melt. The citizens were messy, but excellent after stacking it all on a roll.

Other lunches ran the gamut of sliced cheese and deli meats for sandwiches, BBQ ribs and potato salad or beans, left on prime rib sandwiches of the evening before.

Dinner-more recipes here than I can show. Our labor day meal was always done at the prime rib BBQ and slowly cooked over wood, charcoal and apple, until the internal temperature up to 150 degrees. We would then take-off of the BBQ and the tent with foil for hours.

Another favorite was the shrimp boil with pearl onions, small red potatoes, and pieces of fresh maize still on the ear. This was very easy to cook. Fill a large stock pot about half full with water and use an old Bay Seasoning pack (or more if you spicy foods), and cayenne pepper to the choice of heat. Just dump it into the water. Start the potatoes cooking. When it is about half done, throw in the ears of corn, then the pearl onions. When almost add your shrimp and cook until shrimp are pink.

The funniest was coating the top of a table with newspaper and casting the entire works that on the table in a large hill. That way everyone sat around the table and helped themselves. The corn on the cob is great and the herbs seem to settle in around each kernel of corn.

Another favorite was what choices of ribs that we wanted to use. I marinated them in a mixture of soy sauce, honey, rice wine vinegar, chopped garlic, chili oil and sesame oil. The marinade should a salty and sweet taste at the same time. The ribs dump in the marinade, put them in the refrigerator for 4-7 days. Then they are ready for the BBQ and a simply the best ribs you'll ever have. You can also get some of the marinade for dipping sauce boil. This marinade also works well for flank or skirt steak (you only have them for a few hours-then BBQ marinade).

Portable BBQ-they are good for you?


Now this is a very diverse group, having regard to the fact that it relates to almost any type of BBQ available, only smaller. So, given the fact that I the characteristics of each style have been discussed elsewhere, I'll just go over the advantages of the portables and the traps to watch out for.

I do most of the varieties available, used over the years, and have even done the Weber Kettle around to a few different places, but I wouldn't be a real portable-luggable, maybe call!

Pros:

First, of course, is that they you your favorite style of BBQ can wherever you are.
Each type of heat source is available in a portable format-gives you a great deal of flexibility with regard to cost, availability and security aspects.
Sometimes the only time you can get together with some friends is in a central location-often a park so that the children can walk around and wear out. If you can find there also BBQ always that I am a big bonus.

Cons:

Fees to their size, of course, there are limits to the amount of food that you want at a particular time cooking can.
Avoid cheap, round, three-legged gas barbecues you a K-Mart, Target, etc. ... They just don't put enough heat and the cheap aluminum loading have very little thermal mass. The end result of this is that you cannot sear a steak, it just stews. If there are a lot of wind around, can't you anything cooking as the heat is simply blown away. With a bit of a sea breeze may take more than an hour to cook a few snags (sausage).
In almost all cases, equal smaller not faster. In this example; do you have a Cobb, the still to take 2 hours of cooking that free-range chicken.

Comment:

I have a Cobb oven and love it-slowly roasting wherever you are-although they are not cheap ($ 230 Australian). I thoroughly recommend this or any similar equivalent.
Small smokers as the portable, galvanized (zinc-alum) box fish smoker sold in camping and fish shops ($ 20-30 Australian) are hot smokers, i.e. they cook and smoke at the same time, so are actually very useful if little ovens. Rub a few herbs in some chicken drumsticks and you have some great tasting food in 20 minutes.
If a gas barbecue is what your after, buy as good as you can afford because, as mentioned above, the cheap ones just nonsense. A good model will last you a life-time and can be used in a multitude of situations.

Luxury camping on the Guadalupe


The original idea for this article was to provide a guide for visitors looking for River outfitters/campsites along the banks of the river the Guadalupe between Canyon Lake and New Braunfels, Texas. However, a scenic river road driving along outfitter after outfitter proved that this would be a more daunting task that I originally had thought. How I had to choose from the many outfitters? It is clear would an article including all of them (at least seemingly) the rest of my days. Then, as if in response to my thoughts, the lazy l & l came into picture. This was--the landscape only surpassed all others. My quest was ended.

The first thing I noticed about the lazy l & l was the carefully preserved grounds and the large number of campsites. They boast accurate thirty seven Riverfront campsites with water and electricity, BBQ grills, picnic tables and fire rings (for those cool fall hill country nights). If you feel a little more adventurous, they also offer twelve or more primitive campsites and for those who enjoy big family or group trips, lazy l & l offers two private camping areas with access to main camp and three pavilions. That can be rented for a reasonable price. While the owners promote call in advance for reservations (especially in the busy summer months), the campsite also offers one of the largest flood plains located at the River.

The next aspect that stood out was the number of facilities and services in the Lazy L & l. I couldn't help but notice the big "general store" with all the comforts that someone at home leaving could--including toiletries, BBQ and fishing supplies, food and beverages. This seems to be not such a big deal, but if the nearest Wal-Mart is thirty minutes away, well ... you get the idea. You decide, though, that you to fulfill your Wal-Mart urge, lazy l & l also Wi-Fi connections, offers so you can increase your card of choice. There is also a delicious little grill clerk on the site, during the summer months, and catering is available with advanced notice. Last, but certainly not least (and certainly most important)--the bathrooms. If you are one of the many that camping, as long as certain needs (and comfort) feature, then you will definitely share my joy and find three large, strategically placed bathrooms in the Lazy L & l that ... drum roll please ... not very clean! I've seen (and unfortunately) my share of undesirable features, but no worries here. They also offer hot showers for a small fee.

Now, you're probably wondering, "great, they have more than enough space for me, great landscape by the River, many facilities, but I don't come to the River to sit. What do I get to do? " Fear not--there are plenty of activities to you whether you're a river rat or price of a land occupation. You can't come in this area without "tubes" or "toobing" the River (Yes, there is in these parts as argument to the spelling checker). While the camp many of the river access, it also has excellent access to the Devil's playground White run--one of the most exciting series of rapids along the Guadalupe. You can hire a tube (or series) or bring your own (there is an air station available), and the lazy l & l offers a shuttle service will pick you up one of the river crossings and the campsite for round two. If you prefer your fun sans water, offers the camping also volleyball, horseshoes and fish to keep you entertained.

Okay, let's recap. How are the guys at lazy l & l different from the other outfitters along the River? Firstly, they are certainly family oriented with activities for everyone. Secondly, you can have your very own tube or raft (believe it or not, this may be a problem elsewhere). They offer plenty of clean, yes clean, bath rooms and many facilities at each regular camping. If you are in an apartment building with a balcony or on the roof or any other outdoor space live, you should consult with your building administrator (or in some cases, your local fire department) regarding specific restrictions. In general, using charcoal and gas grills indoors or somewhere above the first floor is prohibited so you may want to consider electric grills place for your Barbecuing efforts.

BBQ baking-Dairy Free banana Chocolate Chip Muffins baked on the backyard Grill


Did anyone say BBQ bread, or banana Chocolate Chip Muffins on the Grill? Yes, I had a little extra time on my hands this weekend, so I decided to experiment with our new grill. I learned something very interesting. It is quite possible to bake loaf of bread, Irish Soda bread, Donuts and even my favorite banana Chocolate Chip Muffins on the BBQ in our backyard. I was surprised at how easy it was.

Historically, are the Spanish-Basque sheep herders known to our Dutch Oven chefs for their beautiful "out on the range" sour dough bread. Since I am a license for digging a pit in my backyard, fill it with hot coals and bake my bread in a Dutch oven covered with Earth and hot coals need would, I decided to go a more simple route and try the baking of bread in my BBQ.

Many new grills, including us, has a temperature measure so the trick is to just the temperature stable to 350 degrees and you're set. I've found that our Kenmore 4 burner grill set to 350 degrees like any other burner is turned on and on just above layer. Once the temperature has stabilised at 350, you can just about anything cooking. This is really handy as we seem to be experiencing a lot of power outages here in Denver due to our local power company's consistent inability to deliver enough power supply during the hot summer months of high demand. Just imagine your bread dough only to discover an unexpected power failure that halts production for 3 or 4 hours baking have kneaded. With my new discovery BBQ bread will blackouts no longer stop determined bakers like myself of making all those yummy dairy free baked goods for my family.

Here is a wonderful BBQ baked dairy free banana Chocolate Chip Muffin recipe that are on the backyard BBQ or even on the campsite can:

Dairy free banana Chocolate Chip Muffins cooked on the BBQ

Ingredients:

3 Additional ripe bananas (about 1 1/2 cups)
2 eggs
1 C firmly packed brown sugar-
1/2 C Vegan (100% vegetable solids) butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 C flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 C Vegan Chocolate Chips (I use 365 brand from whole foods that dairy and Gluten Free)
1/2 C walnuts or Pecans (finely chopped) * optional

Preheat the BBQ/Grill to 350 degrees. Mash bananas. In a medium bowl, beat mashed bananas, eggs, sugar, butter and vanilla until well blended. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Add banana mixture and mix until just blended. Spoon batter into paper muffin cups (this recipe works great for regular and mini muffin formats). Bake 25 to 30 minutes (test with a toothpick to see if muffins are done by. Carefully remove the pan from BBQ. Makes about 12 regular-sized muffins, and 15 mini-muffins.

Essential tips for the perfect BBQ Cookout


It is the beginning of August and the holidays are approaching. My kids are already packing the RV, we go even not for another two weeks, but I can not dampen the spirits.

I have another 11 days (and counting) at work so I can't afford to let me just as I can see the excitement in the kids eyes I know I will be the same once I have the portable grill of the garage.

I love to camp in Europe, not only because of the freedom to go where I want, but also because of the many interesting people I met on the road. Walk around the camp-site at any time after 1 hour and you will begin to see the smoke rises as the families for a lunch-cookout collection. I begin my introduction with a polite "Bon appetite" or "Buen Provecho" I can usually get a quick curious to see what cooking and how they do it and the best bit is, of course, when the complement was answered and they come to see what I'm cooking.

There are many a time as this friendly exchanges start in order to become more competitive and a small portion of what is cooked is transferred to my pitch for sampling. Of course I have to reciprocate! Neither party may speak each other's lingo so the international language of Europe once again, food and barbecue to start.

What better way to pick up some free smoker recipes than wandering around the campsite? It's also amazing to see how easy some of the flavors.

In Italy for example, meat (usually beef or lamb) seasoned with salt and pepper cooked on the grill to pink and then served with a traditional balsamic vinaigrette and lemons.

The meat should only be seasoned on the one hand, and don't be tempted to switch too often. You want the meat to cook on a good temperature on mobilizing the natural sugars and if you all too often the meat just doesn't get up to temperature. Also protects the herbs "" the meat so again one side not seasoned get up to a higher temperature, and so will be more of the natural flavor.

For the balsamic vinaigrette is only 4 items extra-virgin olive oil to some balsamic vinegar, give it a stir well (and emulsion) and drizzle over the sliced meat. It's so simple but so effective.

Another example of simple traditional dishes which is great for the barbecue grill is Greek style. Diced lamb or pork in a bowl of marinade with olive oil and the juice of a lemon and a sprinkling of dried oregano, leave it for an hour and then thread on skewers. Ten minutes on the grill and serve in a pita bread with salad and tzaziki.

For the Tzaziki:

· 1 medium cucumber, peeled and finely chopped

· 225 ml or ½ pint of yogurt

· 2 cloves crushed garlic

· 1 tablespoon olive oil

· 1 teaspoon vinegar

· ½ teaspoon salt

Just stir all ingredients together and refrigerate for at least an hour to let the flavors come together.

Open BBQ Grills-they are good for you


Grilling, is in its simplest form the oldest cooking method known to man.

Then it started exactly cooking is still a furious debate with estimates of "experts" ranging from 1. 6 million years, to a mere 10,000 years ago. Anyway, it is difficult to tell, so I'm not going to get too hung up on it.

Many models can choose between having a grill-plate, a grill grate, or a combination of both, and they are usually easily interchanged.

Cons:

There is no real possibility to slow-Cook. The possible exception is with a grill about coal, but even then you must be constantly checking the

I love getting out with the kids and camping and cooking on a wood fire that burned down the coal. It can be difficult to find the time and energy to do this regularly. So, at least twice a year we have a cookout in the backyard where the children build of the heat and let it burn down and then we cook on a large steel plate, or in my grandmother's old camp oven-I thoroughly recommend it to you!

Cleaning and maintaining your Camping equipment


Camping is one of the great experiences in life can be, but it is not so great if you have failed to ensure your camping equipment. Practicing full and regular maintenance of all your equipment will make that amazing experience last longer and longer. Now not all of this article applies to all forms of camping, but hopefully reflect what is being discussed is activated.

First off, and a topic close to my heart is your tent/cloth drying after rain or heavy dew. My wife and I have a Coromal pop-up camper. It has a solid base to waist height and a solid roof, but silk cloth. When the curtain gets wet you should dry it out as soon as possible to prevent mould and eating away at the fabric. This goes for tents also-dry as you have to pack your tent in the wet, it out as fast as you can. It's not just the tissue that is affected when you let fungus grow. The spores in the air and can lead to severe breathing problems if you stay in which damp environment.

"I can only stress that if you wash gear make sure you dry it thoroughly. We had a client that damp sleeping bags in her travel trailer (we call these touring caravan in the United Kingdom). They left their beautiful new home located on a storage location for a few weeks. When she went to pick it up had had not only mold and mildew formed on the sleeping bags, but it spread to all exposed surfaces of the inside of the caravan. The wooden cabinet doors and soft furnishings were ruined. "

Don't forget the sleeping bags and bed linen. Get cleaned or washed as soon as possible, especially if it's in storage for a while rest will. However, the manufacturers labels to read and follow their cleaning instructions. Nothing can be worse exploration in a yukky bed or sleeping bag – well, I can think of some things worse but I won't mention them here!

Refrigerators are one of the most abused items also. So, you get back from your camping holiday, empty the fridge and then close it until next time. The next time you open it up are you knocked out by the smell! Always your fridge with respect. Clean regularly-after each trip, and let the door slightly ajar. Many camping fridges have a heck to keep the door open about an inch or so. Use it-you'll be better off for it.

Now how about the camp stove or BBQ? Hygiene is important when camping so you a real effort to clean your stove/BBQ after each use. Leaving a very thin film of oil on the exposed metal surfaces will work wonders for the prevention of rust to do. We use a Baby Q Weber BBQ and the cleaning ritual after the meal is a must to ensure that it takes the life we expect it to.

Essential tips for the Music Festival Camping


When you have a music festival goes, there are a few essential tips that you need to know to ensure that you have a great time.

First things first. There is always the chance that some unpredictable weather, so it's best to have enough supplies that can deal with boiling heat or torrential rain.

1. Drink

You can never have enough water, the last thing that you want to go missing from the festival, because you don't have enough of the right stuff have drunk and have eventually pass and in the tent of first aid. Water is what you want, not fizz, no alcohol. What you intend to drink, make sure that the container that it in plastic or some substances than glass. The organizers will under no circumstances allow you to get into anything with glass for obvious reasons.

2. The Munchies

Not going to bring things that threatens to go fast or you'll end up-yup, you guessed it-in the first aid tent again!

Something that should be kept cool you should have by the end of the first day cooked and eaten by the end of the 2nd or 3rd day at the latest,.

Keep all perishable in the cooler. You can buy of ice on the site but are willing to lugging it a fair way back to your tent. Make sure you have plenty of individually packaged snacks to you on the go, fruits such as apples and bananas are good, salted nuts, pretzels, not so good thanks to the high salinity, which if you don't drink enough will have you up-yup end, again, right in that first aid tent!

You may order unopened eating and drinking in the room. Bring as much water as you can or will you end up-do I need to tell you again?

3. Sleeping arrangements

Bring a good tent if you can, an open-sided hood thing is not what you want coz if it down tips with rain and there is a sort of wind you get soaked together with all your stuff.

Of course you need something to sleep on and in conjunction with the right tools to give you your tent.

Remember a torch, there is nothing worse than rummaging around in the pitch black trying to set up a tent on feeling alone. A table and a couple of chairs is also a good idea, there is nothing worse than sitting in the mud, it stinks and gets everywhere (believe me, I know!)

Bring a portable barbecue or BBQ and something to register the event such as a camcorder or camera. Remember to wear sunscreen and a waterproof as a poncho, together with footwear such as crocs for rain or Sun (you definitely don't want burned feed) or wellies in case of rain, and make sure that what you bring is super comfortable.

4. Safety

A belt money is a good idea, you can take your valuables with you at all times. But only bring the essentials. You can now well equipped to enjoy yourself on the following Music Festival.

Awesome portable BBQ Grill


Weber Q 100 BBQ grill is fantastic! We are looking for a small portable gas grill to take camping and this exceeded our expectations.

Firstly, this gas barbecue is very well made and sturdy. Weber produced from the grill lid and body in tough cast aluminium with a sturdy nylon with glass fibre reinforced frame. This portable grill is very light, so it's easy to stash in the trunk for picnics and camping.

The portable grill is an infinitely adjustable burner valve with a regulator of high quality makes it easy to heat.

The heavy roster is fantastic! All had the other BBQ grills thin, fragile timesheets. It has 189 sq. in. cooking surface. Spacious surface can serve steaks or burgers, half a dozen or a dozen hot dogs. I love of grilling with the Weber Q, I can cook dinner in 15-20 minutes.

Cleanup is a problem with a brush. My friends with the cheap timesheets never want to grill, their BBQ grills are dirty and a pain to clean. My grill is always ready to go.

The best thing about the small burner fuel consumption; 5 lbs. propane lasts all season (in California) at 1-2 per week.

Weber finally place a Weber Q Cookbook of recipes and inspiration. The portable grill comes with a five-year limited warranty.

Anyway, I love my big small BBQ grill. It is perfect for a smaller family of 2 or 3 persons. I doubt that anyone will be disappointed with this purchase.

Perfect BBQ Grill for Camping


Last year, when I bought this grill him, more than 100 people had written 4 plus star ratings. So I took their advice and bought this grill, you can see that if you look for Baby Q Reviews.

It's compact size makes it ideal for camping in our RV. Travel In combination with the car, it can go anywhere you go. I have traveled with mine, and nothing is more reassuring than cooking on my own grill, wherever and whenever I want.

Weber produced from the grill lid and body in tough cast aluminium with a sturdy nylon with glass fibre reinforced frame. It has a beautiful gas regulator and button/inflammation. So you don't have to wait too long until it to light up.

Weber q uses a 8500 BTU stainless steel burner to heat the 189-square-inch cooking area. The size of the grid is great and easy to cook for 4 persons. I can 6 hamburgers fit on the timesheet, 8 if I squeeze them and they are all done at the same time. Since there are virtually no flare-ups, the finished products have an excellent taste (not all the way to charcoal), but close enough.

We now use a standard 20 gallon propane tank attached to a hose adapter that we bought at one of the major home improvement stores.

This BBQ grill is very easy to assemble. I also like that I equipment at a later time as a standard grill as the rolling cart can buy.

Overall, this BBQ grill itself is heavy, easy to clean, and there is nothing to peel off. Couldn't more highly recommend.

How you will enjoy a weekend Seadoo Camping


I have the best summer weekend schedule of everyone I know. Well, with the exception of my friends who have pretty much the same weekend schedule that I do. I spend the whole week preparing for Friday evening, where I will deal with the truck, tighten down my Seadoo cover, hitch trailer Seadoo and head out on my 2 hour drive to the summer camping destination. I have a small set of friends who share your passion for Seadoo horseback riding and camping parts that I do, so each year I look forward to a summer of good times relaxation at the Lake.

On the lakes here in Ontario is the summer quite a long season relative to other places in Canada. I can the camping season sometimes so start early in may, although the Seadoo season usually a bit more bearable in June, all the way through to September. I seem to have the talent for at least one more friend each year to convince that this life is, and they go and find some camping gear and set itself with a Seadoo, trailer, life jacket and often some pwc gear.

The weekend starts immediately after work on Friday night. The more that we have chosen for this year is less than a two hour drive from the Hotel, which is a perfect time to unwind from work is, listen to a few pod casts and some new music on my ipod, and simply enjoy the drive. Generally, I have the time when I arrive to unpack, install, get the Seadoo out on the Lake and enjoy a quick trip to say hi to some other campers that I know that only come for the weekend too. Getting back before dark means that we can end our supper began and people eating by the light of the campfire.

Bright and early Saturday morning is my favorite part of the whole weekend. I make a quick pot of coffee, have a small snack, and grab my travel mug and fire up the Seadoo. My favorite change my Seadoo has as the bolt on coffee holder that I use for my super slow, check out the more on Saturday morning rides. I get to see what is going on during the week days I'm not here, and sometimes when I'm out early enough I turn off the engine and just float for a while enjoying the morning calm in the middle of the Lake. After an hour or so I head back, and help in making a huge camping breakfast, and really start the whole camping weekend.

My Seadoo ride on Saturday afternoon is definitely a different pace than my early morning nets. I already have my Seadoo friends meet and we head out for a combination of touring, a visit to other camping-sites, and we inevitably take part in some watercraft games and competitions. Wave jumping from another Seadoo wake as my personal favorite. Although Seadooing in a group tons of fun, I would not fail to mention how important it is to keep your eyes open and follow some common sense and safety rules so that your weekend is not with an unnecessary accident ruined.

Sunday morning is a rest day, but I always manage to get out on the Lake for a ride before we fire up the BBQ for a late lunch. As long as I the Seadoo to get out of the water before we grilled cheese sandwiches on the BBQ (yep, on the BBQ my own invention!), it's time to dry out before I have to convert the Seadoo covers on ready for trailer home. My Seadoo protected and covered is one of the biggest priorities for me, since these hold my watercraft in tip top shape for years of lake camping and riding my Seadoo. So sad as it is to go home on Sunday evening, I am glad to think that I will be out again this coming Friday, ready to do it all over again!

Beginner Camp cooking Made Easy


Cooking of meals when camping is not as difficult as it sounds. Keep in mind you don't need to make working meals, you can keep it simple. You don't have to cook over a campfire, instead you can choose to cook with a Coleman grill that runs on propane gas. It's really all up to you. Tips and tricks for safe Bbqs


Barbecuing in the summer is time for food, friends, and fun, fun, fun! In all the cheerfulness is easy to forget that you're on fire cooking you, and fire is dangerous. Propane gas grills have their own set of risks, including gas leaks and explosions added. In fact, in 2002 more than 3.7 million people barbecue-related injury ago. Cooking fish on a Camping outing


Here in the great Northwest, fish is abundant and can be cooked in various ways from home while you enjoy the outdoors.

Whether it's salmon, halibut, crab, oysters, calms-you name it, there are several ways to prepare a large dish. We share our favorite recipes in this article in the hope that you'll try them and some of your Favorites, too.

SALMON: Our two favourite ways of preparing salmon fillet both relate to the BBQ grill. The first is a small cedar board in water weeks for several hours. Place the salmon on cedar and top the salmon with fresh lemon slices, fresh dill, capers and pats of butter or margarine. Place the fish, directors and all on the BARBECUE and cook until done-usually 20-40 minutes depending on the heat of the BBQ. This ends imparting a somewhat smoky flavor of the edges of the Board of Directors burning and the fresh vegetables and herbs are administered in the fish. A done, cut the salmon in the sections your family loves and serve.

If your taste imply a somewhat smoky flavor, the fish are set to foil instead of cedar wood and done the same way.

Good side dishes include vegetables of your liking. Our family has scalloped potatoes with their salmon.

Either way, you'll really enjoy the mixture of aromas.

CRAB/OYSTERS/CLAMS: We use a crab pot ACE with a well-spoiled Turkey drumstick tied to the inside of the pot to capture our crab. Clams can be harvested from salt water beaches or purchased in the shop (better fresh, though). Oysters can be purchased from the shop, or if you're lucky, directly from a farm oyster.

We cook crab and clams in the same preparation and this recipe have been developed over several years to get the best taste. Start by putting enough white wine relates only to the bottom of a large Dutch oven or stock pot. Add half a cube of butter and some chopped garlic. If you can you some onions, cut as well. Place the crabs and/or the cockles in the pot. Place the lid on the pot. Link in the heat on the stove to the steam development in the pan. The crab will turn red when done; the cockles will open up when done. Crabs usually have to cook for 30 minutes, cockles for as little as 10 minutes.

We want our oysters done on a BBQ. This is very simple and really develops the flavors of the oyster. Simple get the grill hot and place the oysters in the shell directly above the heat-make sure that the curved portion of the shell is the part of the shell you place on the grill. This ensures that the natural juices inside the shell. When the oysters open they're about 90% done (if you are that they are "squishy", that this is the time to remove them from the grill). Many people do not like the squishy feeling in their mouths and cook them until they are done all the way through. When removing them from the BBQ, they will – be a very hot oven mitt or heavy towel when removing them. To eat, remove the top shell and either eating them as they are or immerse them in a bit of garlic. Anyway, they're great!

Links about oysters make a very good tomato based stew that we of tomato juice, chopped garlic, sliced celery make, Tabasco (to your own liking), a dash of lemon juice and fennel. This mixture is sure to provide last night celebrations.

Halibut: Since the taste of halibut as mild, our preparations are easy. One is the use of dill and butter mixed with each other. Put a teaspoon of butter mixture on a steak halibut, and put it on the grill, tuning halfway through cooking. Don't put the steak until it could easily have a spatula put under it, otherwise it will tear the steak and make a mess.

The second way is immersing the rough halibut steak in completely in very hot olive oil and poach it. We usually use a disposable aluminum pan for this process. Boiling no longer opaque. It's very good!

All campsites are charging $ 12 per $ 6 per child per adult per night. They also all have a limit of 10-day maximum stay. Unfortunately for campers who like their dogs, no pets allowed.

HERMIT GULCH CAMPGROUND

Located 1 1/2 mile from the boat landing on Avalon Canyon Road, you can walk or take a taxi from Avalon. It is located on a grass field with trees, inland near Wrigley Memorial and the Botanical Garden.

This campsite has 54 tent sites. Here are flush toilets, showers, picnic tables, barbecues and a small shop. Propane, charcoal, firewood and ice is available for sale of the rangers.

TWO PORTS CAMPING

This campsite is situated in two ports on a bluff above the beach. You can walk up 1/4 mile of two ports or take the Bus Safari. There are 43 tent sites and 3 group. Several of the sites are protected, that is a blessing during the hot summer days. There are chemical toilets, cold showers, a snack bar and a coin Laundry. Activities include snorkeling and biking.

LITTLE HARBOR CAMPING

A third campsite is the small camping Harbor. Located 7 km east of two ports and 16 miles west of Avalon, you can get there by walking (for the studly), or take the Bus Safari from two ports of Avalon.

This campsite has 17 tent sites, of which 8 Group sites. They have chemical toilets, cold showers, picnic tables, a barbecue and a fire ring. You can snorkel and swim at two sandy beaches.

If you want, you can pre-arrange with visitor services for your gear carried two ports for a fee.

BLACKJACK CAMPING

Another of the campsites on Catalina Island is the Blackjack camping. It is located near Mt. Orizaba, the highest peak of the island. It is inland, between the trees. 9 Km West of Avalon and 11 1/2 miles east of two ports of old stage road, you can by a 1 1/2 mile walk to the campsite. To get to the trailhead, walk the Safari Bus or airport shuttle or Avalon. You can check in at Avalon Island Plaza or the two ports Guest Services.

This campsite has 11 primitive tent sites, together with chemical toilets, BBQ, fire ring and picnic tables.

PARSON'S LANDING CAMPGROUND

This campsite is found between land's End and arrowhead. Is located 7 km west of two ports and should you walk in, or come by kayak to get there.

It has 8 primitive tent sites, chemical toilets, BBQ, fire ring and picnic tables. There is no water so that you must bring your own. They may either include water and firewood in the price, so check this when you make your reservation. It is located opposite the beach, which is nice, but it is advisable to have your own shadow

BOAT-IN CAMPING

A unique way to experience Catalina Island camping is by boat or kayak. There are nine named boat-in camping areas in all, for a total of 17 campsites.

All are situated around the northeast coast of Avalon. They are primitive sites with no water, toilets or moorings. You have to pack out your trash and bring your own portable toilets and water. No fires are allowed. A ranger will check you in and then checks on each site every day. Kayak rentals are available in Avalon. For more information, call 310-510-7265.
